Lanus striker Silvio Romero tangles with German Mandarino

Lanus were able to maintain their unbeaten start to the season but saw their lead at the top of the table cut to just one point. However, after finding themselves two down to a spirited Quilmes side, this could have been worse. Both teams at times produced some wonderful football and the draw does little to help either of them and in truth both were deserving of more. Lanus started superbly and despite having Jacobo Mansilla sent off after just 30 minutes raced into a two goal lead, the second, an exquisite solo effort from youngster, Fernando Elizari. However, Lanus came back strongly and goals from Romero and Pizarro got them back on level terms. Despite throwing everything at Quilmes they were unable to get the 3 points. SEE THE GOALS HERE….

Unfortunately the game was blighted by the usual backdrop of violence as the Quilmes barras clashed with police before the game. The visiting Quilmes barras attacked their police escort and then after arriving looted shops prompting further police action. Once again, regrettably, the great game of football was not the only matter to make the news.
