Argentine football has been getting some coverage on the BBC so I thought I had better add the news here. Following their Copa Argentina defeat to Godoy Cruz on Wednesday night, up to 150 barra bravas fought their way into the Huracan dressing room and then assaulted and robbed the players and staff. It has been revealed that the barras were upset that having been eliminated from the cup competition they would not be receiving the financial rewards that go with it. Each side in the next round is given a share of $360,000 and, as is the way with Argentine football, this may well end up in the hands of the barras. Losing on penalties to a side riding high in the Primera division is nothing to be ashamed of for a team in the second tier. Unfortunately for Huracan, it is now reported that several of the players wish to leave the club as they are scared for their own safety. Yet another unsavoury chapter in the problem with hooligans in Argentina.
