River Plate’s hopes of bringing Esteban Cambiasso back to Argentina have been dashed by news that the 33-year-old wants to remain in Europe. Following his release from Inter Milan, River President Rodolfo D’Onofrio dreamed that ‘Cuchu’ would be open to a return to El Monumental but a move to another European club is preferred.
Cambiasso was only at River for a year before his move to Real Madrid but was part of the Clausura winning side in 2002 and still at only 33 years of age would have a great deal to offer.
Cambiasso obviously feels the same and that a move back to Argentina at this point would be premature. Valencia are reportedly keen to take the central midfielder and as a free agent I imagine they are not alone.
River will need to look elsewhere in their strengthening by the looks of things but perhaps another old face in Pablo Aimar might be in for a return.
