Brian Mansilla is currently impressing for Argentina under-20s in Ecuador at the South American Championship but that hasn’t prevented Dutch giants Ajax from submitting a $7 million bid to Racing Club.
Reports of interest from the Eredivisie club had been circulating but Racing president Víctor Blanco confirmed the offer and admitted that it has already been rejected.
“We said no, we will wait a little longer. Maybe in another window,” Blanco confirmed after being asked about the $7 million bid.
For a 19-year-old yet to make an impact on Racing’s first team, Ajax’s offer represents a substantial amount of money but Blanco is perhaps right to think that Mansilla’s performances for Argentina could see that amount increase.
The pacy wide-midfielder has been a mainstay in Claudio Úbeda’s under-20 side in Ecuador, scoring once already during the tournament, and could feature more prominently in Diego Cocca’s plans for Racing this year.
Having made his debut back in 2015, it has been on loan with Quilmes that Mansilla has gained most of his senior experience and while with the Cerveceros scored three goals.
Lightning quick, skillful and an eye for goal, Argentina have been using Mansilla out wide on the left to great effect but the youngster is versatile enough to play across an attacking three or even as a secondary striker.
The Rosario-born forward looks a real prospect and Racing appear set to be the beneficiaries either on the pitch or on the balance sheet.
