Banfield avenged their Clásico del Sur defeat last month with a 1-0 win over Lanús in the Estadio Florencio Sola while Atlético de Rafaela chalked up a third straight victory to breathe further life into their miraculous relegation escape.
Besides the usual hefty derby challenges there was little action of note when Lanús made the short trip to Banfield. Nicolás Bertolo’s powerful header in first half stoppage time was a rare moment of quality in front of goal and was enough for all three points. Alejandro Silva’s two yellow cards and Carlos Matheu’s fierce two-footed challenge that produced a red were typical of a clásico but the champions can have few complaints about the result.
In Santa Fe, Atlético de Rafaela remain a long way from safety but Juan Manuel Llop’s side are now six unbeaten in the league and after Mathías Abero’s last-minute header against Atlético Tucumán, La Crema are now on a three-match winning streak.
The home side were good value for their win against an Atlético Tucumán side badly hurt by the injury to Fernando Zampedri but it was looking like a goalless draw when Abero rose at a corner to nod in the last-gasp winner.
Banfield 1 – 0 Lanús
