Things could barely be going better for Argentinos Juniors right now after a third straight Superliga victory boosted Los Bichos up into ninth and well clear of the relegation zone. The complete opposite is true of Saturday’s victims Rosario Central, who after suffering another defeat in a winless start to the campaign are left pondering the exit of manager Paolo Montero.
Following the 3-1 defeat in the Gigante de Arroyito, it is understood that defeat to Godoy Cruz in the Copa Argentina would prompt Montero’s departure.
Braian Romero ran clear to slot Argentinos Juniors into a first half lead and while Central enjoyed large periods of superiority, going close on a number of occasions, it was the visitors that scored again. Romero’s shot from around the penalty spot squirmed past Diego Rodríguez in goal and over the line.
Nicolás González soon after added a third, sprinting through the heart of the Central defence from his own half and although Fernando Zampedri pulled a goal back in stoppage time, the damage was done.
Meanwhile in the Estadio Brigadier General Estanislao López, Colón picked up what was an expected victory over Temperley.
Always good defensively, the home kept another clean sheet and thanks to goals from Nicolás Leguizamón and Marcelo Estigarribia earned a third win of the season. Still unbeaten, Colón climb into third, boasting the best defensive record of the side’s to have played six matches.
Colón 2 – 0 Temperley
Rosario Central 1 – 3 Argentinos Juniors
