Argentinos Abroad: Lo Celso hands PSG victory, Icardi scores again in Inter win & Paredes nets Olimpíco for Zenit (VIDEO)

Giovani Lo Celso already looks to have done enough to be included in Jorge Sampaoli’s World Cup plans but the midfielder scored the only goal on Sunday as Paris Saint-Germain edged past Bordeaux in Ligue 1.

PSG have the title sewn up but remain on track to break their own record points tally and reach the historic 100-point mark.

Bordeaux looked as though they may frustrate those efforts but in the 76th minute a corner from the left was cleared to the edge of the box and Giovani Lo Celso’s powerful, left footed volley skidded through the crowded box and into the net.

Lo Celso has scored three goals in his last two games in Ligue 1, after scoring only once in his first 32.

PSG are still on course for a domestic trouble despite their disappointments in the Champions League and having displayed tremendous versatility and maturity this season, Lo Celso could be a key man for Argentina in Russia.

In Serie A, Inter maintained their push for Champions League qualification with a hard fought win over Chievo.

Captain Mauro Icardi notched his 26th league goal of the season to open the scoring shortly after half time, tapping in from Danilo D’Ambrosio’s unselfish pass.

Ivan Perisic doubled the lead soon after but Chievo dominated from that point and once Mariusz Stepinski pulled one back, it was a nervy finish in which the hosts could easily have salvaged a point.

Icardi may yet fire Inter back into the Champions League and with Sampaoli expected to meet with the centre-forward shortly, the 25-year-old could still play a role for Argentina.

Another of Argentina’s new crop, ready to play an important role in but certainly beyond Russia, is Leandro Paredes and the classy midfielder was also on target this weekend as Zenit St. Petersburg drew 3-3 with Arsenal Tula.

Zenit had gone behind early but Paredes caught the Arsenal goalkeeper unaware in the 36th minute with a superbly struck Olímpico.

Zenit looked as though they had won it but an 88th minute equaliser denied Roberto Mancini’s side the points.

Injury this weekend to Lucas Biglia may strengthen Paredes’ claim to one of Argentina’s midfield spots but Zenit teammate Matías Kranevitter is now also reportedly back in contention.

And finally, Sebastián Blanco continued his fine start to the MLS season with a goal in Portland Timbers win over New York City FC.

A looping header from the former San Lorenzo forward opened the scoring and took Blanco’s tally to four in just seven games this season as the Timbers ended up easy winners.
