It’s been a long road back but Platense returned to the B Nacional on Wednesday evening with victory over Estudiantes de Caseros in a tense playoff to determine the B Metropolitana champions and the one automatic promotion spot.
The two clubs couldn’t be separated after a full season of football and 90 minutes of a playoff but in extra-time José Vizcarra’s header sealed a dramatic win that ended an eight-year stint in Argentina’s third tier.
The historic club that dropped out of the top flight back in 1999 had famous graduate and World Cup winner David Trezeguet watching on and the hope is that Platense are on the way up.
