Fernando Batista may not have confirmed his Argentina squad for the Pan American games next month but Maxi Rodríguez and Lucas Menossi have been confirmed as two of the over-age players by their respective clubs.
The preliminary squad of 28 players, which will subsequently be cut to a final 18, is predominantly an under-22 tournament but with space for three more experienced figures, Maxi Rodríguez and Menossi are to be named alongside Javier Mascherano, Fabricio Coloccini and Jonathan Calleri as options.
Argentina qualified in January as runners-up at the South American Championship and so Batista will find that under-20 group bolstered by these older players.

Former captain and Argentina’s most-capped player Javier Mascherano had all but confirmed his place last week but Newell’s Old Boys added that Maxi Rodríguez would be joining his old teammate in a congratulatory tweet.
Maxi, a veteran of three World Cups, moved back to Newell’s earlier this year and at 38 years if age could get another opportunity to pull on La Albiceleste.
Fabricio Coloccini, currently captaining San Lorenzo, will be another of the veterans on Batista’s list and two slightly younger options will complete the preliminary over-age options.
Striker Jonathan Calleri at Alavés, who played for Argentina at the 2016 Olympics, will be named and so too will midfielder Lucas Menossi, rewarded for his fine form that helped Tigre lift the Copa Superliga.
