Adolfo Gaich signs five-year deal with CSKA Moscow

CSKA Moscow opted for a soap opera style introduction video for their unveiling of Adolfo Gaich and although the ending of this particular transfer saga has been well known for a while it remains an outstanding piece of business for the Russian club.

Almost one month ago, the deal with San Lorenzo was agreed and on Wednesday Gaich completed the €8.5 million move signing a five-year deal at the VEB Arena.

It is understood that Gaich will have a €30 million release clause at his new club with San Lorenzo retaining 20% of any future sale.

CSKA is not the destination many would have anticipated for Gaich after his numerous starring performances for Argentina. A hat-trick against Venezuela at the South American Championships, three goals at the Under-20 World Cup, five during the gold medal winning Pan American Games campaign and another at the successful Pre-Olympic tournament saw Gaich called up to the senior national team.

A powerful, modern number nine Argentina have high hopes for Gaich and will hope that the move to CSKA helps further develop the 21-year-old.

Gaich’s eight goals in 28 appearances for San Lorenzo might not stand out but it wasn’t until late last season that the centre-forward was entrusted with a major starting role. Five goals in seven games either side of the Christmas break pushed Los Cuervos up the table and showed enough to suggest that the youngster’s potential at under-20 level was real.

Adapting to life in another country brings its own challenges for any young player but the man they called El Tanque (The Tank) has certainly proved that he is physically up to the test. The signing of Gaich is a real coup for CSKA after their fourth-placed finish and ahead of next season’s Europa League campaign, the Argentinian gives his new side a real cutting edge.
