Brindisi talking with Vargas at training

The football news is currently being dominated by the plight of Avellaneda giants, Independiente and their recent appointment of Miguel Angel Brindisi. His work has already begun and Brindisi has been seen at training talking with the experienced members of the squad, Daniel Montenegro, Fabian Vargas and Ernesto Farias but it will take a lot more than an inspiring pep talk to save this side from relegation. Brindisi has not had the smoothest start to the job, besides the obvious situation Independiente are in, it is fairly obvious that he was not the first choice. Julio Cesar Falcioni, through his agent, made it clear that he was not interested and then Uruguayan coach, Jorge Fossati also reportedly turned it down. Brindisi was then the next man in line, and now some stories suggest that Julio Grondona, President of the AFA was behind the appointment, although Independiente President, Javier Cantero has vehemently denied this. Then to make matters worse, Brindisi was robbed when conducting an interview….a bad omen?
Elsewhere, imprisoned San Lorenzo goalkeeper, Pablo Migliore has given an interview regarding his involvement with the Boca barras, the President of Quilmes has accused the referees of favouring Independiente, there is still mystery surrounding the body found at Velez and Nacho Scocco has broken his little toe and could miss some crucial games for Newell’s. BRINDISI NEWS
There is not much more to add as the task facing Miguel Angel Brindisi is obvious but he doesn’t have much time to implement change as his first game in charge is on Sunday when they face Atletico Rafaela. The hope is that he can rekindle the same kind of spirit from his championship winning side in 1994 but it’s a big ask. As I mentioned earlier, it has been suggested that Julio Grondona was actually the man behind this appointment, a suggestion which angered Javier Cantero. Cantero said that he does talk to Grondona and others for advice but “it is an outrage and a disgrace to say that Grondona elected him. I am the President of Independiente and I made the final approach.” Brindisi’s day got worse later, when he was robbed and gunpoint while conducting a radio interview. While talking to a radio show in Palermo, some thieves attacked the new manager, stealing his wallet and his watch, although this has no link to his appointment apparently.

MIGLIORE UPDATE
Pablo Migliore, has admitted that he did see Boca fugitive, Maxi Mazzaro but he has not assisted him in any way. Migliore claims that Mazzaro came to his house and they talked outside. This was his only mistake and that the punishment is too great. Until Mazzaro is captured, he feels he will remain in Ezeiza prison unjustly.

QUILMES OUTBURST
Anibal Fernandez, the President of Quilmes, has angrily suggested that the referees would rather see Quilmes relegated and save Independiente. This stems from the fact that Guillermo Marconni, one of the men in charge of the referee’s union is an Independiente fan. However, Fernandez defiantely claimed, “they will not take Quilmes for arseholes.”

scocco

SCOCCO INJURED
Newell’s main man, Nacho Scocco has broken the bone in his little toe and could face 15-20 days on the sidelines. Although there is now speculation that he could play much sooner, Newell’s will be keen to have him back as soon as possible.

THE MYSTERY OF THE DEATH AT VELEZ
There are still many unknowns as to the happenings surrounding the death of Velez fan, Diego Bogado. Having previously stated that it was a heart attack and Bogado had no involvement with the barras, there is now a suggestion that he was at the stadium to get tickets for the upcoming Sergio Martinez fight relating to the barras business of car parking around the stadium. The body was found in a restricted area and the autopsy has shown some trauma to the thorax and pelvis. The case continues.
