Burdisso heads into his own net to give Racing the lead

Racing defeated Boca Juniors in Sunday’s late kickoff in another huge Buenos Aires clasico albeit with substantially less riding on this one. Having earlier watched fierce rivals, Independiente suffer at the hands of River Plate, and all but confirm their relegation it was a party atmosphere in Avellaneda. A first half own goal from Guillermo Burdisso gave Racing the lead and a penalty a minute after half time converted by goalkeeper, Sebastian Saja gave Racing the deserved victory. In Sunday’s other game, Colon and Atletico Rafaela played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Santa Fe. Diego Vera and Federico Gonzalez twice gave Rafaela the lead but each time it was cancelled out by Emmanuel Gigliotti, who is now the league’s top scorer along with Newell’s Old Boys, Nacho Scocco.
