After weeks of comatose like performances, Lanus suddenly came back to life to end River Plate’s dreams of winning the title. The free scoring Lanus of the opening 6 weeks of the season, which has gone missing in recent weeks and seen their title hopes dwindle returned in spectacular fashion, albeit added by some woeful River defending, to demolish Ramon Diaz’s side 5-1 and almost certainly mean that the trophy is heading to Rosario. Newell’s Old Boys earlier 3-0 win away to Atletico Rafaela means they hold a 6 point lead over both sides with only one round of fixtures to play. Lanus can still catch them as they have the second half of their suspended game with Estudiantes to play but as they trail by two goals it will take an allmighty comeback. In the other more meaningless games, Boca Juniors moved off the bottom of the table with a 1-0 win in La Bombonera against Arsenal, who will consider themselves slightly unfortunate given that they had 2 goals wrongly ruled out for offside. Union earlier drew 1-1 with Velez Sarsfield in their penultimate game in the top flight for a while and Racing won 1-0 in Floresta against All Boys.
Union 1 – 1 Velez Sarsfield
All Boys 0 – 1 Racing
Atletico Rafaela 0 – 3 Newell’s Old Boys
Boca Juniors 1 – 0 Arsenal
Lanus 5 – 1 River Plate
