Independiente begin life in the B with defeat

Relegation out of the top flight was disastrous and since then the supporters of Independiente have let their feelings known to the board. River Plate suffered a similar fate in 2011 but bounced straight back to the Primera Division as champions, for Independiente, however, it appears it may be a little more difficult. Yesterday’s game at home to minnows, Brown de Adrogue, on paper, should have been a gentle start to life in the B. Instead, Brown obtained their first ever win in the Nacional B in their debut at Independiente’s stadium. SEE THE GOALS HERE….

The game itself was reminiscent of Independiente in the top flight, as they struggled to open up many meaningful opportunities and defended woefully. It was an Independiente youth product, Martin Fabro that opened the scoring when he found himself in space and from an acute angle fired his shot into the far corner.

It didn’t take too long for El Rojo to draw level thanks to arguably some generous referring. New signing, Martin Zapata burst down the right and tangled with a defender prompting the referee to point to the spot. Up stepped, Captain, Rolfi Montenegro and he thumped the ball past Matias Giordano. Before half time both sides were reduced to 10 men as Martin Zapata clashed with Gustavo Diaz off the ball.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Independiente having more possession but always looking very susceptible on the break. And so it came as no surprise when Matias Sproat poked home from close range to give Brown de Adrogue a historic victory.

Jeers and whistles greeted the full time whistle and if Independiente do not improve it is going to be a long, long season.
