Newell’s Old Boys began their title defence last night with several key members missing and managed to come from behind twice to beat Boca Juniors in La Bombonera. All 5 goals in the 3-2 thriller were well worth watching and despite both sides look fragile defensively, Newell’s looked in pretty good shape. Elsewhere, in the Copa Argentina, San Lorenzo booked their semi final place with a 2-0 win over Gimnasia y Esgrima de Concepción del Uruguay and in the Copa Sudamerica, Velez lost 1-0 to Belgrano.
