River sneak through after stalemate in El Monumental

River Plate managed to qualify for the next stage of the Copa Sudamericana but once again failed to create too much as their disjointed start to the season continues. The goalless draw with San Lorenzo was enough to go through after their 1-0 victory away. Last night, they were indebted to goalkeeper, Marcelo Barovero and the rest of the defence but particularly, Eder Alvarez Balanta. A common theme of River’s season so far, that these two should be the most impressive. San Lorenzo will feel that they deserve to be in the next round over the two legs but some how failed to score over the two legs. The frustration was too much for Pablo Alvarado, who was sent off in the dying stages for aiming a headbutt at Carlos Carbonaro.
