A close to full-strength San Lorenzo were made to fight until the very end to see off their spirited, lower league opponents in last night’s Copa Argentina Semi-Final. Estudiantes de Buenos Aires, currenly in the Primera B Metropolitana, the third tier of Argentine football, came within a whisker of a historic win but were undone by the dreaded penalties. Despite going behing early to Julio Buffarini’s strike, the boys from Caseros took the tie to extra time with a scrappy second half goal from Alejandro Delorte. Unfortunately, Patricio Grgona missed the crucial penalty in sudden death to leave Pablo Alvarado to slot home the decisive kick and set up a Final against either Arsenal or All Boys.
