Fabian Cubero celebrates putting Velez 2-0 up last night

Velez Sarsfield put their defeat to Belgrano behind them and looked impressive in their demolition of Atletico Rafaela last night in Liniers. A fantastic first half performance saw Velez lead through Lucas Pratto and go two up before the half hour mark through Fabian Cubero’s powerful header. It should have been more at half time, not least as Mauro Zarate spurned a glorious chance from the penalty spot having been fouled himself. In the second half, Pratto turned provider, as his through ball, fed Zarate and he confidently finished past Esteban Conde. Rafaela did manage a consolation when Federico Gonzalez headed in but there was still time for another Velez goal and Pratto was again the architect, Leandro Desabato eventually scoring the goal.
