Maxi Rodriguez central to the success of Newell’s again

Newell’s Old Boys continue to impress and establish themselves as the team to beat in Argentina with yet another routine victory. The league leaders travelled to Quilmes and second half goals from Maxi Rodriguez and Diego Mateo gave them a fourth consecutive win. The win marks Newell’s best start to a season and the best start for a new manager for Alfredo Berti. San Lorenzo were unable to keep pace as they were held to a goalless draw in the Nuevo Gasometro by Tigre. Despite dominating the game, San Lorenzo were unable to find the breakthrough and now find themselves 3 points adrift of Newell’s at the top. Saturday’s other game saw Olimpo snatch a late draw at home with Estudiantes. Carlos Auzgui’s second half header looked like it would put an end to Estudiantes’ winless streak but Matias Sarulyte’s 89th minute equaliser means its 6 without a win for Pellegrini’s men.
