River Plate managed to score before breaking an unwanted club record but despite Juan Menseguez’s early, debut goal they suffered defeat to Estudiantes. Roman Martinez equalised not long after and when Cristian Ledesma was stupidly sent off, Veron and Estudiantes were able to take control. Carlos Auzqui’s goal shortly before half time was enough and now River’s game against Lanus in the Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday has even greater significance. Earlier, Lanus managed to beat Tigre 3-2 in a thoroughly entertaining match in Victoria. The visitors led 3 nil against 10 men but a stunning goal by Matias Perez Garcia started a late rally but which fell short. Elsewhere, Quilmes were unable to hold on against the 10 men of Velez Sarsfield to make it 5 without a win. WATCH ALL THE ACTION….
QUILMES 1 – 1 VELEZ SARSFIELD
TIGRE 2 – 3 LANUS
