After the nightmare of relegation and the less than convincing start to life in the Nacional B, Independiente are finally looking to click and there is a different atmosphere around the Estadio Libertadores. Last night’s 3-0 win over Ferro Carril Oeste was inspired by Captain, Rolfi Montenegro and Omar De Felippe appears to have found the system and players to make a serious promotion push. The win leaves El Rojo just 1 point off Crucero del Norte in third. WATCH THE GOALS HERE….
At the start of the campaign, Independiente looked a little lost with no real attacking threat, moving the ball from side to side with no incision. However, Omar de Felippe has now settled upon a formation that is causing problems and allowing his players to flourish.
Marcelo Vidal and Martin Zapata provide enough cover and energy in the midfield and allow the more attacking trio of young Matias Pisano, Rolfi Montenegro and Leonel Miranda to operate behind the lone striker, Facundo Parra.
It was the link-up between the superb, Matias Pisano and Rolfi that created the opening goal last night. Pisano’s vision picked out Montenegro with a lofted through ball and the veteran captain made no mistake in smashing the ball past Gustavo Losa.
Rolfi’s second was a spectacular 25-yard free-kick which curled over the wall and into the back of the net. With 20 minutes remaining and against 10 men, following Javier Correa’s earlier sending off, El Rojo were heading for victory.
Gustavo Valles made absolutely sure with the pick of the goals 10 minutes from time. A stunning right footed volley flew past Losa into the top corner to cap off an excellent night in Avellaneda.
With Banfield dropping 2 more points following a goalless draw against Douglas Haig, Independiente are now just 5 points off the summit.
