Lanus celebrated winning the Copa Sudamericana last night with a 2-0 win over Ponte Preta. Goals from Victor Ayala and Ismael Blanco made sure of the victory after last week’s draw in Brazil and enabled Lanus to win it’s third major trophy. WATCH THE GOALS….
Following Santiago Silva’s horrendous miss in the first leg, there was a feeling of disappointment with the 1-1 draw in Brazil but Lanus made no mistake last night in La Fortaleza.
Victor Ayala gave Lanus the lead midway through the first half, sweeping home a swift counter attack and on the brink of halftime Ismael Blanco was on hand to tap in the rebound after Silva’s initial header was kept out.
Ponte Preta never really recovered and so Lanus held on for a famous victory. Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s stock continues to rise and if Lanus could pull off the unlikely, but possible, Torneo Inicial victory then some other offers might come in. No doubt Boca Juniors are keeping a keen eye on Schelotto’s career.
