It was a poor night for Argentine teams in the opening round of fixtures in the group stages of this year’s Copa Libertadores. San Lorenzo travelled to Brazil to face Botafogo and despite playing well, suffered a 2-0 defeat. Juan Carlos Ferreyra pounced on a rebound after Sebastian Torrico parried a long range effort to give Botafogo the lead and a superb Wallyson strike after the break made sure of the win. Arsenal had a long trip to Mexico for their game with Santos Laguna as both sides made their Libertadores debuts but they too came up short. Mexican International, Oribe Peralta’s first half goal was enough to give Santos all 3 points. It was left to Velez Sarsfield to salvage something for Argentine football and thankfully they beat Universitario of Peru thanks to Hector Canteros’ late goal. WATCH ALL THE GOALS HERE….
