Round 9 came to an end on Sunday night with the Primera taking a day off for Día De La Memoria on Monday and there were big wins for River Plate, Godoy Cruz and Gimnasia. River Plate perhaps rode their luck in El Monumental in Sunday’s late kickoff as Lanús were made to pay for their missed chances. 21-year old, Daniel Villalva was the key man for River as he laid on the first for Fernando Cavanaghi before curling in an excellent second to keep River in contention. Godoy Cruz got an important result in their bid to avoid relegation as Mauro Obolo’s brace helped them to a 2-1 win over Arsenal in Mendoza. The centre forward’s powerful headers either side of Mauricio Sperduti’s strike ended their 4 game run without a win and gives hope as they chase All Boys. Gimnasia came from a goal down to defeat San Lorenzo by the same scoreline. Angel Correa put El Ciclon in front just after half time but a scrappy Osvaldo Barsottini goal and then a fortuitous Luis Peralta effort punished San Lorenzo for Ignacio Piatti’s profligacy in front of goal. Lastly, Boca Juniors and Quilmes produced the weekend’s dullest of games as their 90 minutes played behind closed door produced nothing of note. Quilmes remain in the drop zone while Boca are still looking devoid of ideas, and with the Superclásico up next the pressure is on. WATCH ALL THE GOALS HERE….

Godoy Cruz  2 – 1  Arsenal de Sarandí

Gimnasia  2 – 1  San Lorenzo

River Plate  2 – 0  Lanús
