Banfield confirmed their place back in the Primera División with a 1-1 draw against Douglas Haig on Thursday night in the Estadio Florencio Sola. It is also a second promotion for manager, Matías Almeyda, having led River Plate to the title in 2012. They join Defensa y Justicia who confirmed their promotion on Wednesday with a 1-0 win away to San Martin. It will be their first campaign in the top flight and as they currently lead Banfield by 2 points with 4 rounds remaining they could be promoted as champions. Both sides have been far and away the best sides in the Nacional B this season and their promotion is thoroughly deserved. The league table illustrates their dominance as Banfield sit 11 points clear of Instituto in third and both sides have scored 14 more goals than their nearest competition. The battle for third place is far murkier as Independiente could only manage a last minute draw away to Ferro Carril Oeste to remain 2 points off Instituto in the final promotion spot and level with Atlético Tucumán. Independiente’s match against Defensa y Justicia in a week could decide the championship and final promotion spot.
