As the news broadcast the celebrations of Atlético fans flooding the streets of Madrid, a slightly smaller but equally joyous occasion was happening in the western barrio of Mataderos in Buenos Aires. Local side, Nueva Chicago’s 1-0 win over Colegiales had meant that Los Verdinegros were Primera B Champions and would be back in the Nacional B next season. Cristian Gomez’s wonderful freekick gave them the the expected victory over the division’s bottom side. Sadly, elsewhere the scenes were not quite so celebratory as police had to intervene to disperse rioting fans in the match between Deportivo Morón and Defensores de Belgrano. WATCH THE ACTION HERE….
