The Avellaneda Clásico could be set to return to the Primera

Perhaps hoping that the World Cup would distract the masses from the abomination that is AFA’s 30-team Primera División that will start in 2015, last night the fixtures for the forthcoming Torneo Transición were announced. Given that this Torneo will finish half way through the year it creates some logistical issues, and so it will not contribute to the relegation averages but the winner will still earn a place in the Copa Libertadores 2015.

The opening weekend, over the weekend of August 3rd, throws up some interesting fixtures with Newell’s Old Boys visit to La Bombonera probably the highlight. River begin the title defence away to Gimnasia and Defensa y Justicia start life in the Primera against Racing.

Boca and River will meet in the Superclásico in the Estadio Monumental on September 28th and depending on what happens this Sunday the Primera will have one of two huge Buenos Aires clásico’s. Indepediente would face Racing Club in Round 5, scheduled for August 24th in the Estadio Libertadores de América. The alternative is Huracán return and they would be due to face San Lorenzo in El Nuevo Gasómetro.
