The final day of the Nacional B season may have lacked quality but it certainly provided drama and it is not over yet as results meant that Independiente will face Huracán on Wednesday in La Plata to play-off for a place in the Primera. Independiente needed just a win at home to Patronato but were held to a goalless draw while Huracán travelled to Casanova and defeated Almirante Brown 1-0. The result sent Almirante down to the B Metropolitana and put Huracán level with El Rojo. ALL THE GOALS….
A packed Estadio Libertadores de América and with club legend, Sergio Agüero watching from the stands, Independiente needed simply to defeat Patronato. However, another utterly toothless performance in which, if it had not been for some smart goalkeeping from Ruso Rodríguez, things could have been even worse, ended goalless.
Simultaneously, Huracán were playing Almirante Brown and a second half goal from Gonzalo Martínez gave El Globo the crucial 3 points. The result not only ensured that a playoff would need be needed (Independiente will face Huracán in the Estadio Único in La Plata at 3pm on Wednesday) to decide who joins Banfield and Defenca and Justicia but also saw Almirante drop into the B Metropolitana.
Almirante Brown were joined by Brown de Adrogué after the were defeated 1-0 away to Ferro Carril Oeste and Gimnasia de Jujuy had saved themselves by winning 3-1 at home to Aldosivi. The identity of the other two sides had already been decided so the four relegated sides are Almirante Brown, Brown de Adrogué, Talleres and Villa San Carlos.
Independiente 0 – 0 Patronato
Almirante Brown 0 – 1 Huracán
Gimnasia de Jujuy 3 – 1 Aldosivi
Ferro Carril Oeste 1 – 0 Brown de Adrogué
