Uruguay captain, Diego Lugano is reportedly closing on a move to River Plate following his release from West Bromwich Albion. Currently in Brasil representing his country, it is understood that the player’s representative has held talks with River Plate Technical Secretary and fellow Uruguayan, Enzo Francescoli.

Torneo Final Champions have an interesting close season ahead given that new manager, Marcelo Gallardo will be overseeing a fairly dramatic change in playing staff. Carlos Carbonero will almost definitely not be there, Manuel Lanzini appears to nearing a move to Europe and Colombian international, Eder Alvarez Balanta will also be a likely mover.

A deal for Lugano will most likely off-set the sale of central defender, Balanta who is attracting interest from across Europe.

Although Lugano looked off the pace during his short time in the Premier League, at 33 and still a Uruguayan international he could probably provide a decent enough short term fix in the Argentine Primera.
