Reports in Italy suggest that Argentina defender, José Maria Basanta is nearing a switch to Fiorentina. The Serie A side are yet to agree the deal with Basanta’s current employers, Monterrey but the player is said to be keen on a switch to Italy.
The 30-year-old defender is currently providing defensive cover for Alejandro Sabella’s side at the World Cup given his ability to play both in the centre and on the left of the defence and at his age is a final opportunity to test himself in Europe.
With Basanta already sold on the move all that is left is La Viola to come to an agreement with Monterrey. It is understood that the Liga MX side are holding out for $4 million while Fiorentina at present have bid around $3.5 million.
If the figures quoted are correct and the difference is that small then the transfer would be expected to be finalised shortly.
