With interesting mounting in Argentina left back, Marcos Rojo, Sporting Lisbon have reportedly put a €12 million valuation on the player. This according to Italian newspaper, Tuttosport after Juventus came the latest club said to approach the Portuguese club over the 24-year old.
Currently in Brazil as Alejandro Sabella’s first-choice left back and having impressed in a season in Portugal where he helped Sporting Lisbon to second in the championship and a place in the Champions League, Rojo’s price may be driven even higher if Argentina progress at the World Cup.
The interest in Europe is certainly there if the newspapers are to be believed. Juventus are the latest but they are in good company as Liverpool, Manchester United, Paris St Germain and Napoli have all been credited with an interest.
Lisbon paid only £3.5 million when they signed Rojo from Spartak Moscow in 2012 and will be hoping that a good World Cup and a bidding war could see the price escalate and provide a very nice profit.
While Rojo may often be seen as a weak link in the Argentine defence he has performed well so far in Brazil and scored in the victory over Nigeria. More at home on the left, Rojo can also slot in at centre back and his versatility would be a very desirable attribute to those interested.
One potential stumbling block over a move to a Premier League side would be that Rojo is partially owned by a third-party investment company and so due to Premier League rules, any English side would need to negotiate a deal with Lisbon and the third-party.
