Lanús battled against Brazilian side, Atlético Mineiro after losing the first leg of the Final last week, but were eventually undone in extra time, losing 5-3 on aggregate.

The Recopa Sudaméricana pits the Copa Libertadores Champions, Atlético Mineiro against the winners of the Copa Sudaméricna, Lanús and despite the tie being just after the World Cup and the break, the two sides served up a thrilling Final.

Lanús trailed from the first leg in Argentina and fell behind early in Brazil to a Diego Tardelli penalty but Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side reacted superbly.

Goals from Victor Ayala and Santiago Silva put Lanús back in front but Maicosuel’s first half equaliser looked to have given Mineiro victory until Lautaro Acosta’s injury time goal forced the tie into extra time.

However, a calamitous extra time period saw Mineiro snatch the trophy. A deflected third put the Brazilian side in front before an utterly dreadful own goal by Ayala gifted them glory.

Atlético Mineiro  4 – 3  Lanús  (AET) 5-3 on aggregate
