San Lorenzo thumped Bolívar in the Nuevo Gasómetro to take a giant step towards the Final and a historic first Copa Libertadores. No side has scored five in a Semi Final since 1989 but goals from Mauro Matos, Emanuel Más (2), Juan Mercier and Julio Buffarini have surely booked El Ciclón’s place despite a second leg in the altitude of La Paz.
San Lorenzo played very well but were able to take advantage of an error strewn performance by the Bolivian visitors.
Mauro Matos headed San Lorenzo into a nerve easing lead after just 6 minutes and Bolívar had obviously not learned from their mistake when they allowed Emanuel Más another free header after 28 minutes to double the lead.
Juan Mercier added a third after the break, breaking from his own half through the middle before inadvertently playing a one-two with the Bolívar defence and smashing the ball past Romel Quiñónez.
Julio Buffarini then rifled in a long range effort before Más headed in his second of the game to complete the rout.
Ahead of a second leg in the altitude of La Paz, a lead was always vital but San Lorenzo have all but guaranteed their place in the Final.
