Southampton aim to pip Liverpool to Rojo

ROJO

Rojo’s performances in Brazil have seen attracted suitors increase

Still reeling from the mass exodus from St Mary’s, Southamption manager, Ronald Koeman is hoping to complete a deal for Argentina full-back, Marcos Rojo. Sporting Lisbon are holding out for a fee in the region of £12 million with The Saints currently offering around £10 million.

Marcos Rojo travelled to Brazil viewed by many as the weak link in Argentina’s side but after La Albiceleste’s run to the Final, Rojo established himself firmly as the first choice left-back for years to come and one of the most sought after defenders in Europe.

Having lost Luke Shaw to Manchester United, Southampton require quality replacements and in Rojo they certainly have one.

The 24-year-old can also slot in at centre-back and even at around £12 million could prove to be an excellent piece of business.

Since moving to Sporting Lisbon in 2012 for £3.5 million Rojo’s stock has risen but certainly the World Cup in Brazil has seen a host of European clubs take notice.

Juventus and Liverpool were strongly linked to Rojo but it would appear that it is Southampton who are closest to negotiating a deal for the Libertadores winner.
