Milan, Juve and Liverpool in 3-way battle for Lavezzi

Several news outlets in Europe are reporting that Ezequiel Lavezzi is nearing an exit from Paris St Germain and AC Milan, Juventus and Liverpool are the three clubs lining up to sign the 29-year-old Argentina international.

Lavezzi’s departure from Paris hinges on the transfer of Ángel Di María. Taking heed of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, Paris St Germain are required to off-load players before they can complete the massive deal with Real Madrid for Di María.

Despite having a good season in Paris, scoring 9 goals and helping his side to the title, Lavezzi is expected to be one of those sacrificed. Having joined Paris from Napoli in 2012 for £24 million, a loss will be incurred but a figure of around £18 million is reported which would not be a bad price for a 29-year-old.

Numerous reports in England, link Liverpool with a move for Lavezzi as Brendan Rodgers is flush with the money from the sale of Luis Suarez and keen to add attacking options. However, Liverpool in recent times seem more keen on players with potential rather than expensive established players and Lavezzi would certainly not be a replacement for the goals that Suarez scored.

Regardless, Italian newspaper, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Lavezzi’s preference is for a move to Juventus and he has even agreed a deal with the Italian champions.

AC Milan also present an alternative for a switch to Italy but financially neither side could match Liverpool. Juventus have significantly cut back their spending from a couple of seasons ago but could find their budget boosted if Arturo Vidal completes a move away.

Any move at present appears dependent on other transfers going through so it is far from certain.
