Diego Milito made a scoring return to life at Racing in their 3-1 win

No one in Avellaneda will be getting too ahead of themselves but Racing Club produced one of their best performances in recent times in defeating newly promoted Defensa y Justicia in Florencia Varela. A Gabriel Hauche double and a Diego Milito goal on his return to Racing gave Diego Cocca’s side three points on the opening day.

Defensa y Justicia’s first ever season in the top flight made this the first meeting of the two sides and it will be one that DyJ will want to forget quickly.

Racing’s impressive looking squad were able to capitalise on Diego Yacob’s 27-minute sending off and a quick Gabriel Hauche double shortly after put Racing firmly in charge.

Returning legend, Diego Milito slotted in a third on the hour mark and although Nicolás Sánchez was sent off shortly after, allowing Defensa to grab a late consolation, there was no spoiling the celebration for Racing. It is far too early to make any grand predictions for Racing but after a couple of seasons of utter misery, the feeling of optimism is a welcome relief to all those associated to the club.
