Marcos Rojo has confirmed to Argentine radio station Radio Continental that his transfer to Manchester United is on, describing it as a “dream move.” Sporting Lisbon president, Bruno de Carvalho’s stance appears to have softened now that Nani may return to Portugal on loan as part of the deal.

Speaking to Radio Continental, Rojo said:

“It’s a dream to play at Manchester United and I am very proud of having the chance of working with [Louis] van Gaal. Leaving Sporting wasn’t easy.”

The 24-year-old defender revealed that he had spoken with Juan Sebastián Verón about the club while they were teammates at Estudiantes. “I spoke with Juan Sebastián Verón about Manchester United when we were at Estudiantes. I have always liked English football, and I should adapt to this new playing style easily.”

This rather messy transfer finally appears to be nearing a conclusion after all the initial problems.

Sporting president is open to the idea that Nani will return to Portugal on loan, on the condition that United still pay his wages. This would be a notable coup for Sporting and with Nani seemingly surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, looks likely.

Van Gaal has made no secret in his admiration for Rojo and according to the press called him personally to assure him that the deal would be completed. As long as United are willing to include Nani, with those conditions, this transfer could be completed very soon.
