Vélez Sarsfield swept aside a woeful Independiente in Avellaneda on Saturday night. After a tight first half, Lucas Pratto inspired a four-goal demolition after the break, scoring the first two before Leonardo Rolón curled in direct from a corner and youngster, Lucas Romero strolled through the porous El Rojo defence. Three out of three for Vélez puts them top but keeping Pratto will be crucial. Earlier, in Rosario, Newell’s Old Boys squandered three leads to draw 3-3 with Belgrano and Rosario Central came from behind to defeat Gimnasia in La Plata.
