After a painful year outside the top flight for the first time in their history, Independiente celebrated winning the first Clásico de Avellaneda since returning to the Primera against bitter rivals, Racing Club. Despite falling behind to Diego Milito’s 14th minute goal, two goals in two minutes from Sebastián Penco and Fede Mancuello turned the game and left the red half of Avellaneda jubilant. Later in La Bombonera, Boca Juniors heralded the beginning of a new era, post-Bianchi. New boss, Rodolfo Arruabarrena was in charge for the first time and oversaw a 3-1 victory over league leaders, Vélez Sarsfield. These dropped points allowed River Plate to leapfrog Vélez to the top, as the current Torneo Final champions defeated the current Copa Libertadores champions, San Lorenzo in Bajo Flores. Marcelo Gallardo’s side once again impressively dispatched of their opponents with goals from Leonardo Pisculichi, Teófilo Gutiérrez and Lucas Boyé. Not to forget, Belgrano also enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win over Atlético Rafaela.
