In spite of the heavy rain in Avellaneda, Independiente celebrated a fourth consecutive win for the first time since the 2010 Clausura and moved up to second after a remarkable 5-3 victory over Quilmes. Earlier, San Lorenzo picked up only their second win of the season with a 2-1 win over Godoy Cruz in Bajo Flores. Remarkably, Tigre scored four for the second time this season in a 4-1 victory over Rosario Central and Atlético Rafaela took advantage of Estudiantes‘ Copa Sudamericana distraction to record a 1-0 win.

San Lorenzo  2 – 1  Godoy Cruz

Leandro Fernandez’s first half goal appeared as though it might result in another weekend of disappointment for San Lorenzo but a quick-fire double after the break ensured a second league win for El Ciclón. The ever-reliable, Nestór Ortigoza equalised from the penalty spot in the 55th minute and five minutes later, Martín Cauteruccio fired in what turned out to the winner.

Tigre  4 – 1  Rosario Central

José Valencia gave Central the lead in Victoria yesterday afternoon but could do little as for the second time this season Tigre scored four to record a simple victory. Carlos Luna scored twice, once from the spot and the other a fine header, and this was followed by goals from Sebastián Rincón and Facundo Bertoglio. Fabián Alegre was fired not long after they last scored four so we shouldn’t get too excited about this but it is an excellent start for new Tigre boss, Gustavo Alfaro.

Atlético Rafaela  1 – 0  Estudiantes

Much like city rivals Gimnasia on Friday night, Estudiantes took the opportunity to rest several first team players ahead of Wednesday night’s Clásico Platense in the Copa Sudamericana. Like their rivals, they too suffered defeat, as Atlético Rafaela profitted and Juan Eluchans second half penalty was enough for La Crema to take all three points.

Independiente  5 – 3  Quilmes

Brian Sarmiento gave Quilmes an early lead but two penalties either side of half time, converted by Independiente goalkeeper, Diego Rodríguez reversed the score. Claudio Riaño then followed in a rebound after Silvio Dulcich failed to hold the influential Matías Pisano’s shot and it appeared that El Rojo were on course for another three points. However, a 71st minute, Gonzalo Klusener penalty and then a late Jonathan Zacaria goal drew the visitors level. Almirón’s side looked to have thrown away two points before injury time goals by Riaño and Fede Mancuello ended the most un-Argentine of matches.
