Well, the Boca Juniors and Racing match may have been a farce for the hour that it lasted and River Plate‘s visit to Arsenal may have been postponed but there were still two other matches on Sunday. Lanús hosted Banfield in the Clásico del Sur and it was perhaps as expected, low in quality and high in emotion. Silvio Romero’s goal just after half time was decisive and inevitably red cards and handbags followed but nonetheless Lanús moved up to fourth in the table. Vélez Sarsfield‘s good start to the season has well and truly ended after a third match without a win. Lucas Zelarrayán’s goal gave Belgrano their second win of the season while Vélez could be 6 points behind River after the game in hand. Boca Juniors led Racing by a goal to nil thanks to Jonathan Calleri’s 26th minute goal but in truth it was a game that never should have started. Thankfully, the same mistake was not made in Sarandí and River’s match against Arsenal did not start. AFA will meet on Tuesday to discuss when these will be played.
