Ignacio Scocco scored his first goal since returning to Newell’s Old Boys to give his side a late one goal win over Olimpo in the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa. The result meant that Newell’s moved up to second, still unbeaten and just a point behind leaders, River Plate but if they are to challenge for the title, Scocco finding something like the form of his previous spell with the club will be crucial. The former Sunderland striker is not there yet but his crucial contribution tonight earned his side three points. Scocco was brought down with just over five minutes remaining and he picked himself up to convert from the spot. By no means have Newell’s hit their stride yet but they are likely to provide the toughest opposition to Gallardo’s River.
