Di María stunner not enough to stop Leicester’s Argentines running riot against Man Utd

Not many people would have bet on Leicester City and their two Argentines outshining Louis van Gaal’s expensively assembled Manchester United side, particularly after Ángel Di María sumptuously lobbed Kasper Schmeichel to put them two in front. However, the Foxes did just that and it was another group of rather more economically purchased Argentines that did the damage. Veteran, Esteban Cambiasso rifled in the crucial equaliser at 3-3 but it was the ever improving, Leonardo Ulloa who once again impressed taking his burgeoning goal tally to five in five Premier League games.

Di María as always was at the heart of all that was good about Manchester United, buzzing around in midfield and bombing forward to support the attack and it looked as though he would provide the catalyst for another straight forward win. United had already gone ahead through Robin van Persie’s header when Di María once more dashed through the middle and after receiving the ball back from Wayne Rooney scooped the ball over the stranded Schmeichel.

However the advantage lasted just a minute and it was Leicester City’s record signing, Argentine, Leonardo Ulloa who scored it. There was a suggestion that the ball had already gone out of play when Jamie Vardy whipped in a cross from the right and Ulloa powerfully headed the ball past Davíd De Gea.

While Ulloa is proving that the faith shown in him by Leicester manager, Nigel Pearson was fully justified, United are surely ruing their decisions to spend such vast sums of money before the window closed without addressing their defensive frailities.

Although Ander Herrera delightfully flicked United back into their two-goal advantage, a controversial penalty decision allowed Leicester an opportunity to get back into the game. David Nugent blasted the Foxes back to within a goal and the momentum suddenly shifted.

Esteban Cambiasso’s arrival in Leicester was somewhat of a surprise given his glittering career. Any doubts over his fitness or ability to contribute to this side were conclusively answered today. Not only in his characteristic busy work in the centre of midfield but the 34-year-old also scored the important equalising goal.

In Cambiasso’s incredible career, the goal appears insignificant in comparison to his achievements but for supporters of Leicester City it was a moment of pure elation.

Vardy added a fourth and there was still time for Ulloa to snatch his second of the game from the penalty spot.
