Liverpool are hoping to take advantage of the unstable situation in Napoli at present by offering Argentina striker, Gonzalo Higuaín a route out of Naples in January. Following a poor start to the Serie A season, manager Rafa Benitez’s position is in doubt and Higuaín is yet to register a goal in the league as Napoli lie eighth in the table, already 7 points off the pace.
Spanish site, Fichajes claims that Liverpool will attempt to use this uncertainty and bring Higuaín to Anfield in a £31.2 million deal.
Although publicly, Higuaín has expressed his happiness to remain in Naples, other reports suggest he has grown disillusioned with the direction of the club and could be looking for another move.
Napoli’s failure in the champions League and the threat of not qualifying this season, makes the club’s financial position all the more precarious. If Napoli are forced to sell in order to recoup some of the big money they have spent in the past few seasons, then Higuaín would be their greatest asset.
Higuaín joined Napoli from Real Madrid before the start of last season for a similar amount as the one mentioned and so recovering that amount could prove useful in the event that the Italian side need to balance the books.
Liverpool will perhaps be looking to bolster their attack in January following their reliance on the fitness of Daniel Sturridge after the sale of Luís Suarez but a deal in excess of £30 million would be a significant move in the middle of the season.
