Carlos Tevez scored twice from the penalty spot to help Juventus defeat title rivals, Roma at the top of Serie A. The Argentine striker has once again found himself excluded from the national side but keeps on scoring goals in Italy as Juve saw off their closest challengers. Argentine youngster, Juan Iturbe netted for Roma as he too stakes a claim to break into Tata Martino’s plans.

Tevez put Juventus in front after 27 minutes and although there was no doubt in the execution of the spotkick, the decision to award it in the first place was the cause of much controversy. Andrea Pirlo’s freekick struck Maicon on the arm in the Roma wall and although the referee first awarded another freekick on the edge of the box he then changed his decision and awarded a penalty.

The outstanding Juve defence yet to concede in Serie A at this point then gave away a penalty of their own and Francesco Totti stroked Roma level.

Juan Iturbe then ran onto Gervinho’s through ball to fire them in front but controversy was not far away. Paul Pogba was touched on the edge of the box and once again the referee pointed to the spot. For the second time, Roma were outraged but for the second time, Carlos Tevez made no mistake.

The game appeared to heading for a draw despite the two late red cards but with minutes left, centre back, Leonardo Bonucci struck a superb volley from the edge of the box to give Juve a crucial victory.

Juventus  3 – 2  Roma
