Gerardo Martino has been training with his Argentina squad ahead of Saturday’s clash against Brazil in Beijing and the main story coming from the sessions is that Juventus midfielder, Roberto Pereyra could be set to start on the right of a four-man midfield.
The latest installment of the Superclásico de las Américas will take place on Saturday when Martino’s Argentina face rivals, Brazil and although it is a very familiar squad, Tata is beginning to make some tweaks to the side that came so close to World Cup glory under Alejandro Sabella.
During Thursday’s training session in Beijing, Martino lined up with a 4-4-2 with the main surprise from this being the inclusion of Juventus midfielder, Roberto Pereyra and Javier Pastore being given a chance alongside Mascherano in the centre.
The side in training was: Sergio Romero; Pablo Zabaleta, Fede Fernández, Martín Demichelis, Marcos Rojo; Roberto Pereyra, Javier Mascherano, Javier Pastore, Angel Di María; Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero.
The inclusion of Pereyra and Pastore is an interesting move and a reward for strong starts to the season at club level.
With the likes of Lionel Messi up front and Di Maria on the left it is likely to be a very fluid 4-4-2 if Argentina use this formation. Messi likely to play with a large degree of freedom and Di Maria needing no invitation to bomb forward and join the front two.
