Marcelo Gallardo’s River Plate were still left undefeated within regulation time but suffered a penalty shootout loss to Rosario Central in the Copa Argentina Quarter Final earlier. A young River side with only Carlos Sánchez as the regular starting player to begin the match was more than a match for Central and also gave a glimpse of two very bright prospects in Emanuel Mammana and Tomás Martínez. The tie eventually went to penalties and with everyone scoring, the misfortune eventually fell to River’s Bruno Uribarri who saw his effort saved. Sebastían Abreu then had the chance to seal the tie and made no mistake in firing Central into the Semis. A Semi Final against either Argentinos Juniors or Estudiantes de Buenos Aires awaits.
