River Plate managed to end their run of three consecutive draws with a hard fought 1-0 win over Newell’s Old Boys in Rosario. It certainly wasn’t the free flowing River of the start of the season and Newell’s threatened on occasions but Ramiro Funes Mori’s second half header proved enough to give Gallardo’s side a 4 point lead at the top. Boca Juniors came from behind to claim a 2-1 win against Rosario Central, although Miguel Ángel Russo will still feel aggrieved by the red card given to Lucas Acevedo, which proved crucial. José Valencia had given Central the lead but two goals in two minutes after the sending off by Mariano Echeverría and Leandro Marin turned the game. Independiente required an injury time Sebastián Penco goal to rescue a point at home to Defensa y Justicia after Mariano Barbieri looked to have given his side a huge away win. At the same time, Atlético Rafaela and Banfield played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. Germán Rodríguez Rojas’ golazo put the home side in front and when Nicolás Orsini doubled the lead it looked like another bad day for Banfield. However, goals from Ricardo Noir and full back, Nicolás Tagliafico earned Alneyda’s boys a point.
