Erik Lamela may not have been a rip roaring success since his big money switch to Tottenham but his goal last night against Asteras Tripolis will live long in the memory at White Hart Lane. The 22-year-old Argentina international has form for scoring this type of spectucular goal but as Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino rightly said it was “unbelieveable.”
Lamela is no stranger to scoring rabonas and footage of him scoring a similarly outrageous goal for River Plate’s youth side has been floating around the internet for a number of years.
Speaking after his latest strike, Lamela was asked if it was the best goal of his career and he replied, “Yes, I think so. I think so. I’ve scored like that before, when I was playing in the junior sides at River Plate. It just happened in a flash.
“I wasn’t thinking about doing something like that, I just wanted to score and it was the most effective, comfortable way of making it happen. It’s something I’ll always remember because it’s something different from the other goals I’ve scored.”
