Marcelo Gallardo is yet to taste defeat over 90 minutes and River’s remarkable unbeaten run now stretches to 29 matches. Last night in La Plata, River needed to come from a goal behind to see off Estudiantes and take a slender lead back to the Monumental. Diego Vera put the hosts ahead when he pounced on the ponderous Ramiro Funes Mori and smashed the ball past Marcelo Barovero. However, it took River just 7 minutes of the second half to draw level, Rodrigo Mora heading in Carlos Sanchez’s right wing cross. The winning goal came in fortuitous circumstances when Jonathan Schunke inadvertantly headed the ball into his own net as he tried to cut out a cross from the left and although River had Carlos Sanchez sent off late on they held on for the win.
